Want to dye natural red hair black, looking for info.?

Okay, so I have naturally red hair and I want it black. (Perhaps with blue tint or streaks) I've never dyed my hair before, and only want it semi or demi permanent. I don't want to mess up my natural color, but looking for something different for a while.

Will the black cover well without use of ammonia?

How long will it take to fade out?

Will my hair be the same natural color as before, or close, after it fades?

Is there any way to add blue without bleaching the black first?

And anything else you think will help.

(This is not a question of whether I should dye it or not, simply the details of actually dying it.)

If you've got red hair, there is virtually no chance in hell of it going back to its original shade after the dye fades. It'll be all faded and brassy and limp. Black dye usually doesn't fade very well, I've done it before. It just grows out slowly and gets this weird, brassy sheen to it. It looks terrible, unless you dye it every two to three weeks.

I know you want blue tint to the black. But I also have nat red hair. If you use a blue based black you will get a purple tint. Even if you bleach it, that just makes the purple worse. Also, the black will not fade completely. You would have to grow it out. However, if you would be ok with a red based black(every black hair dye is either blue or red based) you could easily get a red tint/highlights. Then to go back to red, just bleach it. It's not gonna be your nat color, but it would be red. Carefull you don't fry your hair with the bleach. That really sucks. Afraid thats the best advice i got for ya.

Firstly, be absolutely sure you want to commit to a severe color as black, which is permanent, it cannot be temporary. The deposit of color is too strong. If you decide to commit to black, go to a professional because it is hard as hell to rid of. Once you dye your hair with permanent color, it will never be the same, the chemical process strips your original color %26amp; deposits a new one.

Ok. First off the only black i've found is a permanent black. If you find a temp black let me know.

If you still want to go black.

There is no need for ammonia. Just use a kit. It won't fade out.You can't go back to your natural color because to get the black out you will need to strip it out removing the black color you deposited on the hair and going thru orange and red to get to blond. You would probably need a pro to get it any where near your original color. I'd get one of those highlighting caps where you pull some of the hair thru with a crochet hook. Then I would strip that hair then add manic panic blue to it. Talk about cool.

Good luck.
