Toner on orange hair!!!?

I dyed my hair supposedly "honey blonde" but its just a horrible shade of orange. I keep seeing stuff about using toner but im confused on what color it will turn my hair. I went and bought a "white beige blue base" toner and developer but dont wanna use it til i get an idea of what color its going to turn my hair.Am i headed in the right direction?

A blue based toner will neutralize orange. It neutralizes it to levels of brown though. It doesn't just make it disappear.

Toner turns hair a lighter color, so your hair could end up being light orange or blonde.

just buy a hair dye thing from walmart or target and maybe that will work

i think it's better to go to a salon for that..you probably left the bleach on for too long, i tried that before

Yes, use ash to cut the orange! You have the right idea. I use ash all the time because my hair has natural gold tones and it shows up when I want to go blonde.

You'll do fine, and yes, you are headed in the right direction!

Hey. listen, I want to elaborate on this. I read some of the answers below and they are ridiculous.

Your hair is honey blonde and turned out a shade of orange. You bought a blue based toner which is exactly what professionals would do. DO NOT DARKEN YOUR HAIR as you don't need to! All you need to do is cut the orange with toner. Depending on how orange your hair is, the toner will achieve the effect you want. Blue is the base for cooler colors and you have the right idea.

Use the toner and if it doesn't achieve the results you seek then this means your hair is way too orange to even tone. You need to rebleach your hair to the level where it is pale without any hint of color and then tone it to the desired color.

Sounds difficult but it really isn't.

Another alternative is to buy a temporary color on the market that's a few shades darker with the color ASH in it and darken it but only slightly. What I would do then is darken it to a DARK ASH BLONDE. Then rehighlight but wait a few weeks for your hair to get a bit healthier. Pull the highlights through but make sure they turn a pale blonde and go past the stage of orange. From that point on tone it the color you desire.

i'd say tone it back to dark and start over, when going from dark to blonde you need an ash color

the white beige blue base will bleach the hair up past the Orange red stage which you are stuck in. you must have dark naturally., to get stuck in the red stage.

i would go to a salon. but since its corrective color it will be expensive.

I hope I can help you just a little here. What you need to do if find a color wheel and the color that is opposite on the wheel to the color most like your hair color is the base to the color you need to use.

Sorry as basic as it is I do not remember what is opposite orange on the wheel and I do not want to say use this and it not be exactly what you need..

Again, find a color wheel, use it as your guide and it will not lie to you.

Once you have determined what color to use as your base then I would suggest using a semi-permanent color. (NO AMMONIA). This will be less damaging to your hair because if you have recently dyed your hair it probably is not in its best condition. Also if you dyed it with a permanent color then what it did was lifted the natural color (pigment) out of your hair and then deposited the orange (pigment) into your hair. So your cutile layer on your hair is opened some at this point. Since it is already open then the semi-perm color will be able to penetrate into the cuticle layer, but will also fade out more quickly. So if you get it the color that you want it you are going to need to seal the cuticle layer back down or the color will slip out (fade). You probably should go to your local beauty supply store and get something with acidic ph. (Vinegar rinse). It will help to seal the color and prevent fading.

Do not shampoo it for a couple of days and you may want to try a color enhancing shampoo (has pigment (color) in the shampoo) to help maintain your color. Redken makes some I really like, but on the more economical side Wal-Mart sells one by John Freida that I also use a lot.
